Pollution of Civilization

Have you ever thought about the use of technology and subsequent change in our physical ability, even change on the basic structure of our body?

Somebody may ignore this threat full prediction. But if we believe in science, believe on the development procedures of our being human; then it is not a ridiculous prediction.

According to Darwin’s law, the active part of an organism is much more thick, capable and stronger. Again the inactive part will be extinct slowly by the generation after generation. And this kind of change comes through the life style of an organism in different environment.

Modern technology and life style keeps us sitting in front of the computer for most of the time. The only one entertainment for the children (city dwellers) is the computer game. They like to pass their time on computer rather than playing in the field. Again most of the service holders are being compeled to sit in front of a computer for a long office time. Also they prefer watching movies and playing video games on computer in home. Not only the video games but also there are many other scenario like this for which our hands & legs are kept inactive and brains are doing much. But what is the impact? It has a long term and slow effect. Our eyes, fingers and brain are working much but rest of the limb remains fixed. If this condition prevails year after year, then our legs will become weaker and thinner. And after a thousand of years, we will found two useless legs. Due to extensive brain work, head will become larger. Fingers will be stronger and larger comparing with the hands and legs. Eye will adopt some extra power to see, but will loss its distance predicting ability. Tummy will get a fatty and large structure. Now imagine this structural combination. This is the evaluation of a new species.

Now it is your turn, what will you say? Is it the pollution of modern civilization or being modern with time?

Dangers of Plastic Bottles

From Plastic bottles

We all have heard that drinking more water is better for our health, but the plastic bottles we drink from may contain dangerous toxins! Some scientific research showed that plastics can emit toxin chemicals that are hazardous to the body.

Harvard School of Public Health researchers report that the plastic bottles in which bottled water is typically sold are made up of toxin polycarbonate which leaches chemical bisphenol A (BPA) leaches. It increases the physiological concentration of this toxic chemical within the body.

"We found that drinking cold liquids from polycarbonate bottles for just one week increased urinary BPA levels by more than two-thirds. If you heat those bottles, as is the case with baby bottles, we would expect the levels to be considerably higher. This would be of concern since infants may be particularly susceptible to BPA's endocrine-disrupting potential," said one of the researchers Karin B Michels of Harvard School of Public Health.

Virtually everything that requires shatterproof, lightweight, clear material that can endure high heat: Re-usable food and drink containers, plastic food wrap, eyeglass lenses, medical devices, dental fillings and sealants, helmets, computers, appliances, power tools, CDs, DVDs and carbonless paper used for receipts.

BPA is an endocrine disruptor meaning that it disrupts hormone function (BPA acts as a potent estrogen). Studies show laboratory animals exposed to low levels of BPA have increased rates of reproductive problems, decreased sperm count, early puberty, obesity, diabetes, memory and prostate cancers, and neurological problems.

Last year, in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers from the US and the UK reported the relationship between urine concentrations of BPA and increased cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes and liver enzyme abnormalities in humans.

Now, Harvard School of Public Health researchers focused on drinking cold beverage from poly-carbonate bottles, measured urinary BPA concentration and demonstrated an increase in BPA level. Incidentally, boiling water is known to increase BPA leaching rate up to 55-fold.

BPA is pervasive and can be detected in virtually everybody in the United States. Canada has declared BPA a "toxic chemical" and banned its use in polycarbonate baby bottles in 2008. A few plastic bottle manufacturers have voluntarily removed BPA from their products.

Epidemiological research data warrant the regulatory agencies to pay attention to the growing body of evidence, curb the health hazards posed by BPA and limit human and environmental exposures.

Water Logging in Dhaka

From Water logging

Every year we hear the news of water logging in the major cities. The rainy season is just a few days away and rain will start to pour again, but what is our preparation regarding water logging?

The question is: whether we are prepared enough to tackle this water logging problem in Dhaka and other major cities. Every year heavy rainfall brings untold sufferings to Dhaka city dwellers. Busy roads and residential areas are filled with water and people can't move easily from one place to another because of the faulty drainage systems. And the DCC never takes timely action in order to solve this problem.

The problem should be addressed in right earnest.
